WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said Venezuela is releasing political prisoners in a sign of cooperation after the U.S. military removal of Nicolas Maduro, as he prepares to meet with oil executives Jan. 9 and with the country’s opposition leader next week. “Venezuela is releasing large numbers of political prisoners as a sign of ‘Seeking Peace,’” Trump said in a social media post he called an “important and smart gesture.” “The U.S.A. and Venezuela are working well together, especially as it pertains to rebuilding, in a much bigger, better, and more modern form, their oil and gas infrastructure.” Trump was set to meet at 2:30 p.m. Eastern with oil executives from 17 companies. He is encouraging investment of $100 billion in Venezuela, to revive its oil industry.
