MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Seems everyone in crimson and cream had something to say about Fernando Mendoza’s epic fourth-down touchdown run in Indiana’s 27-21 national championship win against Miami.
Including Mark Cuban.
The Dallas Mavericks minority owner and Indiana alumnus became a steady presence throughout the Hoosiers’ playoff run.
After the confetti fell on Indiana’s first national championship in program history, Cuban weighed in on the game’s most critical play — Mendoza’s 12-yard scoring run that blended heroism, guts and a dash of daring.
“For Fernando to make that run on 4th-and-(4), that changed the game,” Cuban said on the field at Hard Rock Stadium, while waiting to watch the trophy presentation. “That’s what superstars do. That’s what champions do. I’m just so proud of these guys.”
