Clouds will increase through the day, and a few flurries are possible on Thursday afternoon, but the cold remains the primary concern. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for much of Wisconsin, beginning Thursday night and lasting through Saturday morning.
Conditions worsen significantly tonight as the deep freeze intensifies. Overnight lows will fall to around 10 below zero, with wind chills dropping well below zero. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for southeastern Wisconsin from midnight Friday through 1 p.m. Friday, as wind chills are expected to plunge as low as 40 below zero.
Friday will be dangerously cold, with a high near –5 degrees and life-threatening wind chills throughout the day. Due to the cold, school districts are announcing school closings on Friday.
