A $1.7 billion jackpot is on the table, at least for now.
Ranked the fourth largest in Powerball history, the jackpot is still up for grabs on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, after no ticket matched the six numbers drawn for the Dec. 22 drawing.
The prize's estimated cash value is $781.3 million, which can be paid out as a one-time cash lump sum or in annuity payments over 29 years. Either way, players are in for one sweet holiday if the prize is won.
According to Powerball, the jackpot "has been won once on Christmas Eve (2011) and four times on Christmas Day (1996, 2002, 2010, and 2013)."
"Much like the holidays, Powerball is a game that brings people together to dream big and hope for a brighter future," Matt Strawn, Powerball product group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, said in a statement ahead of the drawing.
